Welcome to the Veterinary Pain Short Course!

Colleagues:

Interest in pain management has increased in veterinary medicine and animal husbandry. This interest coincides with an explosion in our understanding of basic pain mechanisms.

Current meetings and educational opportunities focus on therapeutics. While important, there is a further need for the veterinarian, researcher and those interested in drug therapeutics to be exposed to the current thinking related to basic pain mechanisms. Accordingly we undertook to initiate the UCSD Veterinary Pain Short Course, to be held June 20-23, 2012 in San Diego.

Program goals are to provide:

  1. an intense review of pain mechanisms
  2. an application of mechanisms to pain syndromes
  3. a review current and developing analgesic drugs

Well known, internationally respected, experts in basic pain processing and veterinary therapeutics have agreed to participate.

Hope to see you here… Tony Yaksh, Bill Muir and Ashley Wiese
