The 2018 Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancer Care in the Era of Innovation is a 1½ day course designed for clinical providers including otolaryngologists and speech-language pathologists. The course offers a blend of didactic, interactive and hands-on experiences highlighting state-of-the-art head and neck cancer management. Renowned faculty members will demonstrate the most up to date information regarding surgical, radiographic and systemic treatments including immunotherapy and trans-oral surgical resection. Speech-language pathologists will learn novel diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to promote the highest functional outcomes. Otolaryngologists and speech-language pathologists will have the opportunity to take part in hands-on training that includes trans-oral robotic surgery and video-endoscopic voice and swallowing evaluation.

Target Audience

This course is designed for otolaryngologists, speech-language pathologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and registered nurses.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe new advances in minimally invasive surgery and how it is appropriately utilized in patients with early stage and advanced head and neck cancer
  • Illustrate the vast importance of multidisciplinary care in head and neck cancer management
  • Explain the rationale and implementation of a dedicated head and neck cancer care pathway
  • Discuss key advances in both radiation modalities and systemic therapies including immunotherapy
  • Explain how early involvement of speech-language pathology can have tangible impact on speech, voice and swallowing outcomes
